Who We Are
a family with deep roots
We're Blair and Blanca Schaffer and our Grandson Dannon. Since 2020 we've been growing food on the historic grounds of Jericho, Texas - A stagecoach stop, A Route 66-way point, and a community that shaped the Texas Panhandle. Our Grandson Dannon grows up watching seeds become food.
That's the real harvest.

Our Inspiration
During World Wars I and II, the U.S. government encouraged everyday Americans to grow their own vegetables in backyards, vacant lots, and public parks. These were called Victory Gardens - and they worked. By 1944, an estimated 20 million gardens were producing 40% of all vegetables consumed in America.

Today, we carry that same spirit forward here at Jericho. Our Victory Garden is a living demonstration - proof that a small plot of Texas land, tended with care, can still feed a family and inspire a community.
Ancient wisdom
For thousands of years, indigenous peoples of North America grew three crops together - not separately. Corn, pole beans, and squash. They called them the Three Sisters because, like family, they need each other to thrive.

THE ELDEST SISTER - THE BACKBONE
Corn grows tall, providing a natural trellis for the beans to climb. She stands strong so her sisters don't have to figure it out alone. Without her, there's nothing to hold on to.

THE MIDDLE SISTER - THE NOURISHER
Beans wrap around the corn and give back to the soil, pulling nitrogen from the air and fixing it into the earth. She feeds everyone around her - even the ground itself.

Squash spreads its broad leaves low along the ground, shading out weeds and keeping the soil cool and moist. She's the quiet guardian, making sure no one goes thirsty.
